This week I spot-sprayed weeds in my yard. As you can see, I use a pump-sprayer to do this. I make my own mix using a concentrated weed killer and add baby shampoo to it to help it more easily stick to the weeds.
Spot Spraying Weeds Becomes Easier
It seems to get easier each year and it’s not because I’m doing anything special. I’ve been mowing my lawn at a good height, currently at 3″ and twice per week. This is because the grass grows more vigorously in the Spring, also referred to as “spring flush”, so mowing twice a week at this time ensures that I’m not cutting off more than 1/3 of the grass blade. I go into detail here as to why mowing at the correct height is important.
I’ve also been overseeding each fall which pays off at the start of each lawn season. Add to that the occasional fertilizer application and of course, keeping up with watering. The main focus of these steps are to really make the lawn healthier, helping it to take up space that would otherwise be taken over by weeds.
Lawn Care Best Practices Work
These steps are nothing out of the ordinary which proves that by following recommended practices of lawn care, it’s not difficult to have a good looking lawn. That’s not to say there won’t be challenges, there are always challenges, but chances are it will be the best looking lawn in your neighborhood. If you put the time into it, you’ll see results!
