This week I decided to apply a lawn fungus preventative. There are 2 reasons why I did this. First, every year sometime in July my lawn gets a powdery fungus called rust. Some years this rust is worse than others where I can go a full month having to deal with it. The biggest pain is having to wash my mower after every time I cut the grass until it’s gone to prevent it from spreading to other areas of my lawn. The second reason why I applied the lawn fungus preventative is because of the high humidity we’ve been having which makes it perfect for fungus to develop.
Most of the time these issues resolve on their own and there’s no need to apply a preventative. However, in my case where my lawn is susceptible to rust, I need to get rid of it ASAP. It gets on your shoes and you can track it everywhere.
Last year I had good success applying Scotts Disease-Ex around this time. As such, that’s what I did again this week, in hopes of preventing or at least minimizing rust lawn fungus. I applied it at the suggested preventative rate of 2 pounds per 1,000 square feet.
