This is my first journal entry! My lawn season typically begins sometime in late March to early April. Here’s what I’ve done to my lawn up to this point:
- March 2023: Gently raked the lawn and did a soil test.
- April 2023: first mow of the season at 2.5 inches in early April. Applied a Lesco pre-emergent and added lime to the soil. In late April I set my height of cut to 3.25 inches and sprayed weeds with Weed-B-Gon.
- May 2023: put down Lesco fertilizer in early May. Late May, I sprayed weeds again.
We’ve been having a dry couple of weeks therefore I’ve been keeping up with watering. Normally I would have already applied Grubex in May to control grubs but I decided to risk it and skip it this year since I have a bag of 24 hour grub killer on hand. I’ll be watching my lawn closely so that if any signs of grubs appear I’ll apply what I have immediately.
I also added a second round of fertilizer at a lighter rate (0.5 pounds of Nitrogen) along with some humic acid and kelp mixture to fortify the soil. I’ll have more on this in a separate post.
