On my previous journal entry I mentioned I was going to skip applying GrubEx to my lawn. The reason for this was because I had to move a few patches of grass around and while digging I didn’t see any grubs.
Having said that, after seeing some spots on my lawn I decided to go ahead an apply GrubEx. The spots are most likely lawn disease such as dollar-spot but that was enough to scare me into applying this grub preventative. When grub damage is noticed (August-September), it’s usually too late to get the dead patches to recover. That’s when a 24-hour grub killer needs to be applied, as a last resort to prevent further damage. It was a risky plan from the start but I was able to correct it before it got too late.
Aside from this, earlier this week I put down 0.5 pounds of nitrogen on the lawn to get it to perk up with some color. I used a Lesco 24-0-11 fertilizer to do this, applying it at a rate of 2 pounds per 1,000 square feet.
